2012 Runner Recognition Nominations Deadline Extended to February 15, 2013

Is there a KAR member who has been a source of inspiration to you in your running?  How about a member who has made an exceptional comeback, shown incredible improvement or has demonstrated competitive excellence or volunteerism.  These categories and more are all part of the Kalamazoo Area Runners Runner Recognition program. Now is your opportunity to recognize those who have inspired you. Nominations are due February 15, 2013. Click on the link below to view the categories and their requirements, and submit an online nomination. Both nominees and nominators must be current members of the Kalamazoo Area Runners.

  • Awards given at Annual Banquet in March 2013
  • Recognition period will be January 1 – December 31, 2012
  • Submit your nomination online via our online Runner Recognition Form  by February 15, 2013
  • Board selects from the nominees
  • Both Nominators and Nominees must be current members of the Kalamazoo Area Runners
  • Prior award winners can be re-nominated
  • Board Members eligible except for Volunteer of  the Year Awards as long as they are current Kalamazoo Area Runners members.
  • Mega-Marathoner and Mega-Racer candidates may self-nominate

Categories

Reynold Oas Volunteer of the Year Award

Demonstrates an exemplary level of volunteerism within Club sponsored events and programs as well as those that benefit the running community and community as a whole.

Spirit of Running Award

Shares their love and passion for the sport and serves as a positive role model and source of inspiration and encouragement to others.

Rookie Runner of the Year Award 

Runner who started running the current year and demonstrates outstanding potential or progress, dedication and sportsmanship.

Comeback Runner of the Year Award

Runner who has been on hiatus for a year or more and makes a notable comeback.

Most Improved Runner of the Year Award

Runner who has shown the most improvement over the past year

Mega-Marathoner of the Year

Posts the most marathon completions for the current year.  Strictly based on number of completions.  Name of Marathons Completed must be provided.

Mega-Racer of the Year

Posts the most race completions (5k – Marathon) for the current year.  Strictly based on the number of completions.  Events may be relays or fun runs as long as the leg or race distance is 5k or greater.  Names of races completed must be provided.

Social Runner of the Year Award

Welcomes and draws people into the running community through demonstrating a warm and friendly spirit.

Story Contributor of the Year Award

Frequently shares fun stories and experiences for the News Rundown and other Kalamazoo Area Runners related Communications

Gender Specific Categories

Youth Runner of the Year (Under age 12) Male & Female

Runner under age 12 that demonstrates competitive excellence, sportsmanship & serves as a positive role model to others

Open Runner of the Year Award – Male & Female

Demonstrates competitive excellence in Open Competition, sportsmanship & serves as a positive role model to others

Masters Runner of the Year Award(Age 40+) – Male & Female

Demonstrates competitive excellence in Masters Competition, sportsmanship & serves as a positive role model to others

Grand Masters Runner of the Year Award(Age 50+) – Male & Female

Demonstrates competitive excellence in Grand Masters Competition, sportsmanship & serves as a positive role model to others
