Experience The Hill, The Will, The Thrill!  Registration is OPEN for the 39th Annual Kalamazoo Klassic 10k Run, 5k Run/Walk, Kids’ Klassic and Team Challenge.  Presented in partnership by MRC Industries, Inc. and Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR) this year’s events are scheduled for June 16th and 17th, 2017.

The 2017 Kalamazoo Klassic has been endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports and the Michigan Fitness Foundation as a quality physical activity event through the Pure Michigan FITness Series endorsement program.

The 5k Run serves as the 2017 Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) State Championship Race.

Event Info

The Kids’ Klassic 1k and 2k event, organized by Gazelle Sports, is Friday evening, June 16th at 6:00pm and starts on Hudson Street in front of the Maple YMCA. Thanks to the generous support of United Healthcare, the event is FREE to the community.  The first 300 children to pre-register receive a t-shirt. The event will be capped at 500 children.

The Kalamazoo Klassic 10k Run and 5k Run/Walk is Saturday morning, June 17th. The 10k run starts at 7:30am and the 5k run/walk starts at 9:00am, both at the top of the hill on Maple Street. Cost is $30/pre-registration through June 15, 2016  Late registration is $35 June 16 & 17.  Group discount is available for groups of 10 or more.

The Team Challenge sponsored by Rose Street Advisors, invites teams of 3 – 5 runners to compete for awards in the 5k and 10k Runs.  The top three teams in corporate and open divisions win prizes based on age division place of the top three finishing runners on each team.

There is no additional charge to participate in the team challenge or participate in both the 5k and 10k events.


The purpose of the Kalamazoo Klassic is to promote diversity, community and overall health and well-being while raising funds that benefit individuals with disabilities.  Last year, more than 1,100 participants took part in this community tradition.

Eighty-five (85) percent of proceeds benefit MRC Industries, Inc. (, a local non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization with the mission to provide support and encouragement to individuals living with a disability to achieve their fullest potential through employment, skill-building and active community involvement.

MRC serves approximately 600 individuals each year with the philosophy that every person is unique, valued and entitled to be treated with respect and dignity.   This philosophical framework results in programs and services focused on an individual’s needs, desires, strengths and abilities.

Fifteen (15) percent of proceeds benefit co-organizer Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR). The mission of the Kalamazoo Area Runners ( is to promote a healthy lifestyle through the sport of running while enhancing the quality of life in the community.   Kalamazoo Area Runners (KAR) is the largest running club in the state of Michigan with nearly 1,300 members.
